Roster Creation and Draft Process

SCLL is a recreational development league that prides itself on being a cornerstone of our community.  In order to best serve as a positive influence to the players and parents in our district, we assemble team rosters with a balanced focus on fair competition and family’s relationships.  We take into consideration teammate and preferred Head Coach requests as well as try to ensure that all teams have balanced player talent levels to provide for a more fun and positive experience for players of all skill levels.

Trust the Process…

  • At registration parents are encouraged to list Preferred Teammates and Head Coaches they wish for their athlete to play with.  Please note that we try to accommodate these requests, but it may not always be possible.

  • Once all Player Registrations are finalized and Volunteer Head Coaches have been selected, the Draft Day Time will be assigned for each Program Division.  Typically, rosters will be comprised of no less than 10 and no more than 13 players.  In the event that we have more players than Volunteer Head Coaches, the VP of that Division will act as a substitute Manager for the Draft.  Any team roster created by the Draft Manager will need to have Parent Volunteers step up into the Head Coaching role or find a Head Coach for the season.  SCLL is an all volunteer organization.  Parent Volunteer Coaches are crucial to the success of the league.  Resources are available to aid in managing/coaching a team.

  • Each Head Coach/Draft Manager may select up to 6 players from the eligible registrations requesting Preferred Coach/Teammate to be added to their roster.  Special note, the Head Coach’s child/player is automatically assigned to their roster and does not count against the “Select 6”.

  •  All final roster spots will be assigned by “blind draw” where player names will be placed in a Lottery to be drawn out in Snake Order (Coach A... Coach B... Coach C... Coach C... Coach B... Coach A... repeat) until all players have been assigned to a roster.

  • Once the roster spots have been filled, the Trade Window will open.  Coaches can meet on a one-to-one or group basis and discuss trading players with other coaches.

  • At the end of the Trade Window, Head Coaches will present their Final Roster to the VP of their Division and will be given access to Parent/Player contact information.  Head Coaches will then select practice times.  Head Coaches are encouraged to contact their Players’ Parents within 24 hours to prepare their Team for the season.  Assistant Coaches are chosen from Parents of players on the final roster or may be unaffiliated with any player in the league.  Head/Assistant Coaches may not have a child on a different roster within the same Division.

  • If at any time after the rosters have been finalized, a Player’s Parent may request a meeting with the VP of their Division to discuss being placed on a different roster.  We strive to be a positive influence on the development of the athletes and provide every opportunity possible for a fun and exciting season.  Balanced competition and family dynamics are a crucial component to this mission.  Thank you for your support and we look forward to another outstanding season.
